Which option for the Arts School for you prefer?
Funded in E-SPLOST V at Avondale MS site for $15m – 33.33%
Funded in GO Bond at the Avondale MS site for $15m – 5.56%
Funded in next E-SPLOST at a different site with a larger facility to include a Performing Arts Center for greater than $70m. – 46.3%
Cancel Arts School Project. 14.8%
The DSA community is split between the $15m Avondale Middle School project and larger $70m project. More people voted to wait for the larger school/PAC option or to cancel the arts project than to move forward with E-SPLOST V. Stakeholders overwhelmingly agreed that the current DSA at Avondale HS is in immediate need of repairs and renovation and would support advocating for that over any of the Arts School options.
Funding for the current DSA building is currently tied to the $15m Avondale Middle School project. In order for funds to be redirected to the current DSA building, the K-12 Arts School at Avondale Middle School needs to be voted infeasible by the DCSD BOE. This vote would remove the DSA and DESA funding tie that was approved during SPLOST IV.
Note: In the July, 2019 BOE meeting, the district acknowledged that if the Arts School at Avondale MS did not move forward there “might” be an immediate need to put funds into the current DSA building. We understand there are no funding guaranteed, but are willing to organize and advocate for it.
