PTSA General Meeting Minutes

Call to Order: 11:15 am
Welcome/Introduction: Michele Barard, PTSA President
- Introduction of board
- Objectives this year are to improve communication and support teaching
- Agendas will be electronic in an effort to reduce paper waste

Review of Minutes: Monina Klevens, Secretary
- Previous minutes approved unanimously
Treasurers Report:
- Proposed budget for this new academic year was distributed in hard copy. Harold Archie reviewed categories and emphasized that this is a dynamic document to be modified as needed.

Membership/enrichment fund: Russell Steen, Chair
- This fund pays for everything that supports the classrooms and instruction
- The amount is flexible, so far 30% of families have contributed
Principal’s Report:
- Recognition of staff
- The giveattarget.com opened yesterday. Please go, select DSA and ‘like’ once a week. DSA will receive gift cards. Last year these were helpful in acknowledging support staff.
- District vision for SPLOST is still in feasibility study phase. Next meeting planned for November.
- The new Counselor will meet with Seniors in September, Juniors in October, Sophmores in November and with Freshman and 8th graders early in 2014.
- The thespian fundraiser will be on Sept 6th
- Premier weekend will be the weekend of Sept 21, 22; there will be 4 shows.
- Look for more communications via ‘dsathisweek’. Subscribe if you haven’t already.
Other:
- Sue Briss and Florena Oliver described the DSA Foundation. Last year funds were used, for example, to support dance instruction and choreography. Everyone can contribute via the website: FoundationDSA.org
Announcements:
- Volunteer hours can be logged on-line (using jotform) or in person. There will also be the box of index cards in the office. The jotform system will be upgraded asap.
- This year there will be cross-checking of volunteer hours. Sign up on site is needed.
- It is also possible to contribute goods at the rate of $5/credit hour.
- The Ted Redovian concert will be held on Sat, Aug 17 at the Dunwoody Baptist Church. This is a fund raiser. Funds are generously provided by the family and in honor of Ted Redovian, a DSA student who died unexpectedly. Students in the Atlanta metro area are eligible for funds.
- The opening picnic is using a ticket system this year to allow a measurement of participants for future planning. Tickets will be used to raffle prizes.
