IMPORTANT REMINDERS
♪ DSA’s School Council will hold parent member elections in September. If you would be interested in serving or nominating someone, please contact Mrs. McCauley. School council terms are for 2 years with 4-5 meetings a year.
♪ Staff and students did a great job this week with our emergency protocol procedures. Parents – please review the points below:
Level 1 Alert – Threat or dangerous situation happening close to school or in immediate neighborhood. All exterior/interior doors locked and student movement is limited or monitored.
Level 2 Alert – Threat or volatile situation inside building, but not physically threatening at the time. All doors locked and all staff and students stay in place.
Level 3 Alert – Threat is inside school and weapons or physical violence apparent. All doors locked, staff, and students are silent and move in classroom to be out of view from hallway door windows.
In the event of drills or actual emergencies, parents or visitors will not be allowed in the building as the exterior is secured. In case of an actual site evacuation, parents would be directed to one of two alternate school sites for pick-up. All schools are required to hold monthly emergency drills, which may include the above alert procedures, fire drill, and/or severe weather drills.
♪ When visiting DSA during school hours, please remember to stop by the front office to sign-in and receive a visitor’s pass. Also, you may be asked to show ID when checking out your student.
♪ If you are having trouble logging on to ParentPortal after creating a “unique ID”, please use the technical assistance contact provided through the district. At the school level, we approve access within 48 business hours of registration. All students should have access to ParentPortal at this time.
District Reminder
If you were unable to attend the grade book software demonstration on Tuesday evening, there will be another opportunity on Tuesday, August 27th from 7:00-8:00pm. The software programs are designed to provide secure access to a teacher’s grade book for parents and students and will be presented by two vendors who have made proposals to the District. We want your assessment of these programs before a final selection is made so you will be asked to complete a short evaluation of each product demonstrated.
The demonstrations will be held in the AIC Boardroom at the Administrative & Instructional Complex, 1701 Mountain Industrial Blvd., Stone Mountain.

NEWS FROM THE PTSA
On behalf of the DSA PTSA Board, I’d like to thank all of those families who contributed time and/or food and drink donations to the Back to School Picnic. We had a very successful start of the year event with more than 400 people in attendance. Your efforts made that possible.
We will learn from what went well (e.g. not running out of food) and what didn’t go quite as well (e.g. the long line to get the food) to have more successful events throughout the year.
Thank you again for your time and effort!
